How To Take A Better Selfie:

January 19, 2016      Transformation

Now that I have your attention, turn that camera around.  Notice the people and world around you.  The world does not need more pictures of you.  The world desperately needs you to be more.  The root of most problems is self.  We can be our own worst enemy.  We can be our biggest barrier to success.  Sometimes we get in the way of our own victory.  We are definitely living in a selfie obsessed world.  We love to take pictures of our self.  However, a new addiction has come on the scene since the birthing of social media.  We are addicted to attention. Attention can be a drug that gives you highs and lows. It is the newest addiction that doesn’t get talked about much.   The need for attention comes from the focus on self.
Selfless
Focusing on self makes us realize the people around us less.  Focusing on self makes us less compassionate or even considerate of others.  Focusing on self-causes us to make selfish parenting decisions.  In the past few years, I have noticed how much we talk about ourselves in a group.     I have noticed people have stopped asking other people questions about their life.  We have stopped showing an interest in others.   Oh how we love to talk about self.
Obsession with self is a trap to keep you in bondage so you don’t notice the world around you. Constant focus on self can lead you down the path of addiction.  Most addictions trap you into only thinking of self.  Addiction makes you become obsessed with self. A good first step to overcoming addiction is to do something nice for someone else.  It will force you to stop thinking about you.  Giving a compliment requires you to stop thinking about self and notice someone else. I rarely hear people complement each other anymore.  Complementing is a lost art form.

I’m starting a movement.  I’m challenging us to be more. We were created for so much more than self. Did you know that God chose you to be born in this generation?  You were born with a purpose. We can reverse the tide of self-absorption in our country.  Let’s not be the generation of self. Let’s be something different. Let’s be something more. Let’s not be a generation of selfishness.  Let’s be the generation of selflessness. Let’s be known for our compassion.  Let’s be a positive change in a negative world.  Let’s be hero’s in a world increasingly dark and dangerous. The world doesn’t need more pictures of ourselves.  The world needs us to be something greater than ourselves.
Here’s how we can do it.  Take my 8-point challenge.  Complete each of the tasks below.  By doing so you are joining the movement.  I dare you to become something greater than yourself.  I dare you to be a part of something much bigger than yourself. I dare you to be more.
Challenge:

  1. Take a picture of the people you do life with instead of yourself. Hashtag your picture #anti-selfie movement.
  2. Start greeting people by their first name. Recognize others.
  3. Next time you’re in a crowd ask someone a question about their life. Take an interest in others.
  4. Next time you’re in a crowd talk less about yourself. Make it about others.
  5. Regardless of your age do something for your parents. Don’t look for them to always do for you. Do something for them.
  6. Focus on creating a beautiful heart more than a beautiful body.
  7. Compliment someone today.
  8. Encourage someone today.

I want to hear from you. If you would like to join the movement reach out to me.  Leave a comment on my Blog, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. #antiselfiemovement. By doing so you are saying I want to be more.
