Kid’s Devotional:
I’m sure you have heard of the movie Frozen by now. It’s hard not to break out into song when you hear the words let it go. You know the Disney version of this movie, but do you know the biblical version?
Everyone gets their feelings hurt at times. This can happen in families, at school, at play dates, and even at church. Hurt feelings cause tiny holes to form in your heart. When you hurt other’s it creates holes in their heart. It’s easy to stay mad and hold a grudge. When you stay mad your heart starts to freeze. This makes you stuck. It’s kind of like being frozen in time. The longer you stay mad the more cold your heart becomes. Remember when Elsa runs away to an ice castle on top of a mountain. If you don’t deal with hurt feelings it will make you feel alone and isolated.
However, the power of God can thaw your cold heart and make it warm again. All you have to do is give Jesus the hurt inside your heart. Release it to him. He heals your heart for you. Remember when Olaf says, some people are worth melting for. Jesus is worth melting for. Melt your hurts before Jesus. Only Jesus can make your heart feel better.
Sometimes you will be the one to hurt someone’s feelings. You can gain power and strength by asking that person to forgive you. Every time you say “I’m sorry” you grow wiser and stronger. Jesus is well pleased when we apologize for our behavior.
Other times you will need to ask Jesus to take away your hurts. It’s as simple as saying, Jesus I release the hurts in my heart to you. I choose to forgive. When you say the words I choose to forgive, something powerful happens inside of you. You gain power, strength, and peace. Learn to let it go, let it go, can’t hold it back anymore.
Power Verse: Mathew 5:44
Love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer.
Talking Points:
- How does it feel when someone hurts your feelings?
- What can you do when your heart starts to get cold and mad?
- What are some ways you can make things right with people you have hurt?
Kid Challenge:
Make a snowflake. Inside the snowflake write down the person’s name that hurt you or write down the hurt feelings inside your heart. Fold the snowflake up and place it on your bible. Pray and ask God to help you let it go. Now go throw the snowflake in the garbage and let it go.
Parent/Child Prayer:
Lord please heal me of the hurts inside me. Help me to forgive and let it go. Give me the power to forgive people. Help me not to hurt others. Give me the courage to say I’m sorry when I do. Make my heart strong and courageous. I melt before you oh Lord.
