Most of us by now are aware of the crisis facing the world. We are living with new threats, problems, and unprecedented violence. Many would have you believe that it’s hopeless, that there is nothing we can do. World leaders are scrambling for solutions to really tough problems. As intelligent as they are, as experienced as they are, they can’t figure it out. Sometimes the answer is so obvious that we miss it. Sometimes the solution is so simple that we overlook it. Could the answer for America be right in front of our eyes?
God is not waiting on Washington D.C. God’s not waiting for revival to come to our government, schools, or White House. God is waiting for revival to come to our homes. When it happens in our homes it’s going to spread to our churches, cities, government and nations around the world. However, I think God is waiting for you and me. As my very wise 18 year old nephew always says, If you want revival you have to be revival.
Don’t believe the lie that there is nothing we can do. In fact there is a lot we can do. We still have the power to impact our world by what we do in our home. We have a heart problem right now facing our nation. The world is looking for solutions. You may not realize it, but you already have the answer. We need to fix the family first. The family unit is broken spiritually, figuratively, and literally, but can be repaired. How do we do that? Sometimes the answer is so obvious that we miss it. I believe the answer can be found in our homes. I have several practical ideas to promote a God centered home. None of these are rocket science. It’s actually quite simple. However, we have to intentionally live our lives. We have to parent on purpose.
- Get that worship music playing in your home. Worship music fills the atmosphere and invites the presence of God into our homes. It invites the angles of heaven to circle your home and protect your family.
- Dust off that bible and make it visible in your home. Your kids need to see you reading your bible. The words in the bible are meant to empower and encourage you. However, it only works if you open it and read it. Children do what they see their parents do. Children are really good at mimicking adults.
- Start having family devotionals. This strengthens the spiritual bond in a family. Encourage your children no matter how small to prepare a devotional for the family. Get talking about the bible as a family. As the parents lead and start the discussions.
- Teach your kids how to pray by role modeling this behavior. Give them opportunities to practice praying out loud in the home. Before everyone walks out the door in the morning pray together. Don’t wait till they are teenagers to do this. Start when they are small.
- Live out Christianity Sunday-Saturday. Show your kids it’s more than a Sunday morning experience.
- Protect the family unit by setting boundaries.
- Don’t let excessive activities put added undo stress on the family unit. You have to manage kid activities so you can maintain a healthy well balanced schedule. Over scheduled families begin to break down and tear apart. Protect the family unit.
- Make every member of your family feel like they belong. Evil is recruiting our kids who don’t belong. Give your kids a place where they belong, matter, and fit in. Some kids don’t feel like they belong in their very own families. The problem occurs when kids go looking outside the family unit to fit in.
- Have your small children start memorizing powerful scripture verses. You must get the word of God into their spirit. This sets them up for success in the world. Again don’t wait until they are teenagers. This has to happen when they are small.
- Protect the sanctity of your marriage. Don’t let outside voices or influences into your marriage. Healthy marriages grow healthy kids.
- And most importantly it’s time to get in the prayer closet. The solutions are dependent on our prayers. Our children need us to create a blanket of prayers over them. Our marriages need a prayer covering of protection as well. If your family is going to survive; you have to learn how to pray and intercede. There is a spiritual war waging against the family right now. Learn how to fight it on your knees.
Again, we have a heart problem facing our country and world right now. The solution starts in the home. We need to fix the family first. The best thing we can do for this nation is to strengthen faith based families. The world needs us. God is waiting for us. Let’s go to action. It’s time to do something. Is God welcomed in your home? If not its time to put the welcome sign out.
